Grand Halen Election / Against the Lost Ones
« on: March 28, 2018, 09:35:31 pm »
After their triumphant return bearing the head of an ancient blue dargon the Fallen Star Company’s presence changed the face of the region. They drove off marauding bands through force of reputation alone. Many credit their generous patronage of the arts and education as having brought a period of mild renaissance. An emergence of honorable pupils has invigorated the cultural landscape as artists, scholars, musicians, engineers and even adventures are moving into the urban cities from the rural farmlands. Though Grand Halen is fostering the potential of its people there are those forces slavering to reap it.

The parade that celebrated the FSC’s departure to Cormanthor was as grand as the one that had welcomed them from the sword coast. However, weeks have passed with no word of their heroes. Doubt has spread like a disease; men who had been certain the heroes would return promptly with wagons full of spoils now openly bet in the rackets against the odds that the FSC ever returns. Rumor has swept through taverns cross the sea of fallen stars, word of banditry on the rise and darker rumors of missing family members and scaled beasts creep through the land.

Many people of Grand Halen trust in the guiding hand of the Fallen Star Company ((despite sexually explicit allegations levied against their de facto leader (brushed off as lockeroom talk)) and the new regime of Lord Pendragon. Not all are soothed by the promises of the court and its jesters (foolish adventurers) this unruly lot reaches to grasp their own power – by whatever means necessary.

Upon Lady Gwynns' departure with the funken tome Rasec shakes his head in disappointment.
"Typical gypsies, they claim sovereignty over any forsaken road and demand the food off your plate. I don't give charity to gyps. I wouldn't give em' so much as my name."

From nowhere did you see him approach, unaware of his presence until he steps forward into the firelight.
"The freedom you espouse mocks the memory of your revered prince. His gift to your people was the safety of his land. Yet here your people are causing trouble for the inn. Does it take a village to seek out heroes? Why not just hire mercenaries. Why don't you do what your folk do best and move along so we can get some rest."

During a long silence you all eye one another then stare off in different ways. You've become engrossed in the babbling of the nearby Vistanti. Suddenly the droopy melted candle on your table is snuffed out.

Stepping into the shadow of an empty seat at your table is a heavily cloaked but rigid figure. In the darkness his eyes peer at each of you with a yellow  intensity. Shadows fall away from him like a snake sheds its skin.
He leans forward and relights the candle. In the light you see his features differently. The yellow in his eyes fade to gray and the trails of shadow wisps away.
Revealed before you is a gray skinned man of middle age with tiny dark tendrils of hair.
Despite his dark features his voice is firm but tired.
"Hail thee, fine adventurers. I am known as Rasec. I used to be known differently when I lead a mercenary troop. However I dare not face my ilk now reeking of shadow. My quest for power led me to this dark path. Since I cannot return home I seek to atone by ridding your land of blight."

Olly flutters off of Clunks shoulder and transforms into his hybrid form in order to extend a feathered hand unto Durango's shoulder.
In a warm embrace he says
"Take heart Durango, I'm sure you will find your mother soon. Perhaps Asmundyr will allow it in our budget to investigate Nyth for any scrap of information. Whats-more perhaps this powerful Oracle can unveil even more."
Olly advances past Durango to approach the giants' seat.
"You Are Well Met, Harshnag the Grim. Or perhaps now they should have called you Harshnag the Gentle?"
'he laughs in jest'
"An Oracle is a very... intriguing matter. I detect that it would be within our parties great interest to seek out this mountaintop spirit. Why I would harken there isn't a mountain I -no, we- can't...climb...in order to commune with... well just what kind of spirit is this, and of whom? A fallen giant mystic or perhaps planar being bound to dwell in Faerun."

Olly flashes 7 gold pieces, a shiny coin webbed between each finger, then indicates the gnome to lead on. He also withdraws a booklet full of fine quills, many made from Arch-Griffin feathers.

Olly investigates the Margasters and Lord Zymorven, but also checks for local lore regarding giants; in particular storm and frost giants. D20 +2 (15) + 2 = 17. Do I roll again?

Olly enjoys his slotted portion of pie and accepts the tea sipping politely.
At the change of weather he casts detect magic to examine the aura. Surprised when the alchemist mentions the Mythal.
he tells popo and the others -
"The old books tell story of The Mythals. They are security measures to protect the cities by prohibiting dangerous and unknown teleport entry as well as providing other safety measures against threats to the state. Though I had no idea this one existed, it should only serve protect the inhabitants with its' good vibes."

Ollyfein admonishes Daniel, reminding him that the Margasters have a evil reputation saying "Didn't your mother teach you it's not polite to associate with criminals?

Besides...Urgala Meltimer sent us to speak with Lord Harthos Zymorven about a dwarven weapon of Giantslaying."

Proud to have saved the feeble town Olly holds his swiveling head high. "My sprite companion is still following the giants, that way we have an idea of their movements while we trek to Yartar en route to Everlund." Though out of telepathic reach the sprite follows the giants until it learns the destination of the metal object or reaches a point of no return thence twill return, asking Lady Shendrel what direction we head off in if need be.

Ollyfein speaks to the Axebeaks while staying just out of reach. Offering some (chunks of roasted orc?) treats to gain their favor he persuades them to trust him as a bird brother. He says "you will be treated better than by those pig-monkeys. Join my flock and I shall lead you true, bird brothers! Back at my roost I entertain many avians with bountiful morsels. Flock with me to attain the promised roost where we bird take dominion. You bird do not fly in the sky...flock with me and your dreams will soar."

Adventure 2 / Re: The Downtime
« on: December 16, 2016, 08:15:47 pm »
With his 65 ft flying MS Ollyfein is able to cover ground very efficiently. Anywhere and in any form he appears Olly speaks and shares grain with local birds, chatting with them about the weather, sightings, and roosting patterns...inviting them to visit his roost. At the various towns he quietly approaches orphans with a little a bird which he has play with them, giving them a bit of food or coin to recruit the orphans into the Order of Whispers. (for these situations Olly may use Fey Presence to charm a bird if his persuade doesn't work)

Conscripting a local carpentry team Olly has the Fallen Bar Co. renovated. In particular building a lofted performance stage in a way that both increases seating capacity and bolsters acoustics. During the construction Olly may have implemented a lockable hidden trap door behind the stage. Flying back to town to perform in shows, he afterwards melds into the crowds and gathers information about local events and feelings. A wealthy lifestyle will be afforded through Ollyfeins performances. Playing lyre along with Solomon and various guest performers perhaps featuring Asmundyr at times, Olly also contributes pop synths and bass & drum loops via minor illusion and prestidigitation.

I researched what must be done to establish some lucrative trade deals with the Gulthandori and Nadine.
On a 1 week trip to Gulthandor he speaks with Gremion. Bearing a package of gifts for the Red Fox, Olly assess' his well being and ability, offering that he may be happier as a good doing adventurer and that he is welcome to accompany Olly in friendship. While with Gremion he asks for plentiful seed; fruit trees, vegetables, bean, wheat and oat seeds suitable for the climate to help a sundered land. He even tries to persuade Gremion to return with him to the stronghold to aid the broken people. Whatever Gremmy is unable to provide Olly seeks out by stopping at other towns during his travel, offering some humble coin for seed. He speaks with Nadine about trade deals.

Olly then heads from Gulthandor to 'The Roosthold' with the seeds. He explains each seed to the people and how to care for the plants, producing an agricultural lore book he purchased. He has the people till parts of the land cleared by Clunk into plots, managed communally and establishing a composting system with which to mix with goat manure and fertilize the crops. Olly sacrifices sorcery points and slots to cast watery sphere multiple times a day; watering the plots of land. We have no need for scarecrows for all the birds in the area already know to respect his process. Olly checks any tree in which a birds nest lies for that tree will be painted and therefore not cut down. A variety of local birds of prey keep the farmland clear of pests such as rodents.
After a days work he'd return to the topmost tower room which he converted into his own roost. There he shares kernels of corn with his bird friends. In the silence of the night one can hear the faint coos and hoots of chattering going on into the night.
Going out and foraging for herbs Olly makes his own paints and dyes which he uses to teach the children how to paint in addition to the normal lessons, using the supplies purchased from town to teach reading and writing. The painting lessons include illustrating 'family' or 'fey symbols.' the singing lessons include basic fey incantations. Painted images of Ollys 'Magic Bell' will now adorn the walls of their playroom.
Anivia will receive a piece of romantic artwork, given to her in secret, perhaps in Ollys' Roost. In his chamber is the hearth, kept lit with his create bonfire spell. His bed and pillows stuffed with archgriffon feathers and lined with cashmere bedding. An easel. A lyre and its pestle. A single book (the journal from the ice tower which he studies) Jars of various herbs scavenged while foraging. Some decorative flowers- potted.  Anyone who enters his chamber will see an array of dignified birds along various pestled railings just inside the open vaulted french doors which lead to the small stone terrace out-looking the valley. A falcon or hawk might watch curiously as smaller sparrows and larks flutter about you, landing on a shoulder or outstretched hand. Next to a thick leather gauntlet is a meat platter, pick it up and one of the birds of prey will fly to your arm for a snack. (DM can roll if I make acquaintance with a natural giant eagle)

Olly repeatedly uses Heart Sight on Solomon until his alignment is determined.
Olly often invites both Theodora and Edwina to performances. Though he only visits her once a month for magic lessons, he regularly sends his sprite to Edwina for further tutoring in various subjects such as elvish, sylvan, foraging, poisons

Flying to Briarhold he seeks audience with Sir Manfred as an emissary from Asmundyr. First he will deliver a message that while we are regretful how things ended up, we apologize for intruding on your home. Next that the FSC claims responsibility for deposing Le Coq, suggesting that he earlier promised a reward for such a deed.

Ollyfein speaking to Geoffrey, disguise yourself as a local peasant and we shall pursue this quarry. I've heard talk on some back alley thieves..this task might require a...deft hand that few other than yourself can deliver. Ollyfein tells him his plan to infiltrate the ranks of the local thieves guild to get more info on the black market and possibly Le Coq.

Ollyfein goes out about the town in worn common clothing rather than his usual adventuring gear. Researching rumors about Le Coq with the beggars and in the inns. I have my sprite go out with me. He eavesdrops on people...especially when I walk away after questioning about Le Coq. He also peeps through windows for anything related to peasant banditry and Le Coq. Olly goes back to the Fallen Bar with his lyre to play with Solomon, they then go to the swankier inns to play for crowds where we put out some hats to collect donated coin. Olly keeps all the profits and in return tells Saul' the tales of hunting arch griffon and feasting with surprise bears.
